This was designed for the Liberty/ Good Housekeeping Competition 1985? but I wasn't shortlisted so the idea sat in my portfolio until a couple visiting friends in Wirksworth, Derbyshire (my home town) saw my exhibition in the library and commissoned me to make it.
It was my first 'proper' quilt commission, amongst making curtains for local people and came way ahead of my business plan for when I could start making the 'real thing'. It was also chosen for a back cover of The Quilter (Quilter's Guild of the British Isles) and helped me get known in my early days so I'm very grateful to the commissioner and the subsequent pieces I also made for him.
I chased it up for my '20-20 revision' retrospective exhibition in the Brighton Fringe 2007 and was pleasantly surprised to find it had migrated to Yorkshire, as a wedding present for a very appreciative couple.
