This is the first stage of a tryptych I am working on with a church in Hove right now.
The maquette (my design concept collage) is in the background at the front of the stage where it will ultimately hang. However the fabrics in the collage are not exactly the same as the ones I was able to buy locally and as I've also used some textured pieces in the next step of the design, the whole image is not yet fully resolved and it's still at the frustrating stage of design!
It's quiet a challenge working so big and in a different space with occasional observers. The design process would take a lot longer usually and I resolve a lot of problems by leaving the piece alone and doing something else. But I want to get this sorted out more quickly because I am hoping it will be ready for my May exhibition in the Brighton Fringe 2008
Some of the church members are helping sew it together - we worked out there are over 3,000 triangles in it, so it's going to be wonderful fun getting all the points to match up! We sewed the bottom two rows of the sea (which I'm happy with) yesterday (16/02/08)

This is my slowest ever commission - it's a good job they're friends!
Two ministers moved from Twickenham to Sheffield, where he has been a Steel works chaplain. This piece will commemorate their time there: his End to End - Lands End to John O Groats pilgrimage; Sheffield industry; their love of nature; and Biblical passages on smelting, precious metals, and God's hidden wisdom.
It's taken so long because its a completely new departure for me into 3D box structures and free machine embroidery (which I had to learn on my Windsor, City & Guilds embroidery course). I've also moved twice and my husband had several serious illnesses in the meantime.
This sample is part of the 'fire' section. Look out for further postings this year!
